Tips

Use fun garnishes to shake things up a bit with your guests (or yourself).

Collect vintage glasses like we do at flea markets and tag sales. An inexpensive hobby and you don’t weep when they break like you do breaking the heirloom glassware………

Orange you Glad

Freshen up the summer classic G&T with a dash of this and that using our own Spanish orange infused gin.

Ingredients:

2 oz Fifth State Seville Gin
1 dash orange bitters
¼ teaspoon simple syrup (try lime!)
Squeeze of 1/8 lime
4-5 ounces soda water (try Topo Chico!)
Garnish luxuriously with mint, rosemary, dried fruits

Steps:

  1. Fill tall glass with ice

  2. Pour in the ingredients in the order above

  3. Stir in glass

The Sikorsky

An homage to the classic Aviation Cocktail from the early 1900’s. Our is named for Connecticut’s own Helicopter company founded in 1923 by Russian immigrant Igor Sikorsky.

Ingredients:

2.0 ounces Fifth State classic Gin
¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
½ ounce Maraschino cherry liqueur (can use tart cherry juice as substitute)
¼ ounce Crème de Violette (the blue color!)
Rim garnish is all natural blue pea powder (don’t use flavored salt as substitute)

Steps:

  1. Put all ingredients in cocktail shaker

  2. Add ice to fill ¾ full

  3. Shake with lid on

  4. Strain into glass, add ice gently

Ginger Mary

Using our own ginger infused vodka we add our spin to the classic breakfast cocktail.

Ingredients:

2 ounces Fifth State Ginger Zap
Squeezed juice of 1 full lime
6 ounces your favorite Bloody Mary mix (buy local!)
2 ounces ginger beer

Steps:

  1. Fill pint glass with ice

  2. Add all ingredients

  3. Stir gently but for awhile

  4. Garnish extravagantly

Summer Trouble

Everyone gets in a little, right? This whiskey cocktail is superb for cooling off on the patio.

Ingredients:

2 ounces Fifth State Barrel Strength Whiskey
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
Juice from ½ large orange
Eye dropper of simple syrup (optional)
¼ teaspoon Amaro Italian liqueur (you can substitute an almond or nut liqueur)

Steps:

  1. Place ice in glass (best with one large cube)

  2. Put all ingredients in cocktail shaker and mix violently

  3. Strain into glass (important to strain)

  4. Garnish with rosemary and lemon wedge

  5. Kickback, enjoy

Bridgeporter

Manhattan has enough cocktails named after it. This is our version of the classic using our maple syrup infused whiskey.

Ingredients:

2 ounces Fifth State CT Maple Whiskey
½ ounce sweet vermouth
1 teaspoon fresh squeezed orange juice
2 dashes of spiced bitters

Steps:

  1. Place ingredients in cocktail shaker

  2. Fill with ice

  3. Shake vigorously

  4. Strain into coupe glass or martini glass

  5. Garnish with cherries and cinnamon stick

Sunset over the Farm

Colorful, thirst quencher this is for watching the sun go down over the cornfields of your mind.

Ingredients:

1.5 ounces Fifth State vodka
1.0 ounces Aperol
½ ounce Gran Marnier (optional)
6 ounces soda water
Squeeze of ½ lime
½ teaspoon grenadine (or add to taste)

Steps:

  1. Fill a large wine glass with ice

  2. Add the grenadine, Gran Marnier, and Aperol

  3. Add the vodka and soda water and lime juice

  4. Stir gently and let sit 2 minutes to chill

  5. Garnish with a massive sprig of mint or herb or strong stemmed flower
